About Molly Hand
Molly Hand, a Birmingham native, would best be described as an artistic mutt.
She is an Irish dancer of over 10 years, Director of the Alabama Academy of Irish Dance Non-profit, wire artist, photographer, and now paper cutting.
Generally distracted by shiny things, she decided it would be best to work with wire; found metal objects and old jewelry, as it would hold her attention long enough to finish a project.
Inspiration for the construction of the sculptures came from a visit to an organization that works in third world countries using re-appropriated materials to create tools, houses, and toys. She started creating the mixed media sculptures after her visit there in 1999.
