Molly Hand, a Birmingham native, would best be described as an artistic mutt. She is an Irish dancer of over 10 years, Director of the Alabama Academy of Irish Dance Non-profit, wire artist, photographer, and now paper cutting.
Generally distracted by shiny things, she decided it would be best to work with wire; found metal objects and old jewelry, as it would hold her attention long enough to finish a project. Inspiration for the construction of the sculptures came from a visit to an organization that works in third world countries using re-appropriated materials to create tools, houses, and toys. She started creating the mixed media sculptures after her visit there in 1999. Her wire sculptures can be found at Naked Art Gallery in Birmingham, AL and Matter Gallery in Olympia, WA.
